Yael Harnik, (b 1986) is a textile artist and designer from Tel Aviv, Israel. She is currently based in Tokyo, Japan.
Yael began her Textile Design studies at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art, where she earned her BA. After receiving the prestigious Monbukagakusho Scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education, she began her graduate studies in Tokyo where she earned her MA and is currently a PhD student at Tama Art University.
Prior to her graduate studies, she worked as a Textile Designer for Gottex in Israel, and for various international companies located in London, New York and Vietnam.
In Tokyo, she studies traditional Japanese dyeing techniques, specializing in Katazome, a stencil and dye resistant method. Inspired by the natural world, Yael explores the concepts of time and repetition, touching upon the liminal zone between East and West.
