YAEL HARNIK
Augment
Stencil paste-resist dyeing (Katazome), silk, indigo,
wooden frame
Dimensions: 100×160 cm X 5
Year: 2021
Repetition in general and unraveling in particular does not only evoke the notion of endlessness but also echo yearning, as an existential stance that can never be resolved. By here practice of repetitive unraveling, Yael gives expression to her own longings.
Augment features a double repetition: it is composed of five pieces, identical in their design pattern, and each of the pieces is unraveled in the same manner. This monotone repetitions plays with the tension between resemblance and differentiation. The more resemblance there is, the more intensified are the nuances of differentiation.
